Keira Knightley is to star in `Anna Karenina`
The actress has reportedly been in discussions with director Joe Wright - who she previously worked with on `Pride and Prejudice` and `Atonement` - about taking the lead role in his proposed big screen adaptation of Leo Tolstoy?s classic novel, which follows a married woman who becomes a social outcast when she has an affair with an aristocrat.
Tom Stoppard is said to be penning the screenplay on behalf of Working Title, and will deliver a draft to the studio next month.
Tom Bevan, who runs Working Title with Eric Fellner, admitted the film has not officially been given the go ahead yet but is hopeful the project will be a success.
He told the Daily Mail newspaper: "We`re developing a number of projects with Joe, and `Anna Karenina` is one of them.
"I`m not saying I`ve made up my mind, but there`s something about `Anna Karenina`, Tom Stoppard and Joe Wright that sounds right.`
Also being discussed for Joe to work on is a script penned by Abi Morgan based on the classic fairytale `The Little Mermaid`, with the studio planning to meet with the filmmaker in the spring to "decide what looks like the most sensible thing to do."
